Physics Relay Committee Message

In all the years this event has been run it is the first time a competitor has been taken away by ambulance. The runner in question was Chris Lambert, and he has sent me this message:

It was me that got taken away on Friday afternoon - my memory about the event is hazy to say the least ....I remember crossing the finish line and then grogily coming-to in the ambulance.

They did some tests and kept me in overnight as a precaution ....they released me just before lunchtime on Saturday. To be honest, I felt fine once I'd left A & E on Friday, but they insisted that I stay overnight (to my disdain!).

I would like to pay tribute to the people who helped me before the ambulance arrived: Andy Verdon of the Engineering Dept and the staff from the Centre for Sport did a stirling job in helping me and for that, I owe my utmost of thanks. I would also like to give the warmest of thanks to my LPDU-work colleagues, who gave considerable support and great understanding.

Finally, I would like to thank the Physics Dept for a well-organised, fun and very enjoyable event

Bring on next year!

Best regards, Chris

Clearly Patrick Brown was distracted arranging his imminent departure, meaning that Mathematics were reduced to only winning two classes, but both by the same team! Congratulations to the Nick Smith Memorial Mixed Team on being both overall winner as well as being the first mixed team. By the way the maths teams were all named in memory of Nick Smith, who competed in last year's race but died in intervening 12 months.

It was good to see the number of ladies teams back up and well done to the LEC Lasses, they have promised to come back next year to defend their title.

Teams eligible for the age corrected trophy were all packed in the middle of the results, and although the correction moved teams around quite a lot, the fastest of them was still fastest after correction so well done to the Environmentals. By the way someone claiming to be from Enivironmental Science took your prize so I hope you receive it. If not look out for one of your colleagues being more merry than usual, as the prize is 4 cans of beer.

Thanks as ever to all helpers, especially Rob Henderson for putting out and taking in the flags, and buying extra beer. Thanks also to the road marshalls Vassil Karloukovski,Rob Hatfield,James Catmore , Steve Holden, and Jonathan Strong , and Marcus Lewin for helping with the timing.
