I suspect the recent good weather contributed to this year's great turn out of 15 teams. It certainly contributed to the hard ground which saw off a Boy's Brigade mallet that Rob was using to drive in the flags. We were rather short of them this year as the ground staff keep losing them apparently. Luckily I had some South Ribble Orienteering Club tapes with me to make up for it, although they are harder to see from a distance. OK, now I have to own up to messing up the age corrected calculation again. As usual it was down to the last minute entries not getting into the spreadsheet correctly. Observant readers will note that Physics Staff, who were awarded the prize have dropped to second, behind a bunch of Psychos - Bates Motel, continuing the tradition that the last team to enter wins a prize (three years running I make it). They will have to be content with an honorary victory as I know for a fact that at least a quarter of the prize has already been consumed. Even so with the aptly named `Real Physiques' winning the open prize, Physics have a first and a second place so that is not that bad! I think maths were hoping they could win all four prizes this year. It is certainly a first for a single department to have an entry in each class. In the end it was their ladies who did them proud with wins in the ladies and mixed classes. Thanks as ever to all the helpers on the day who ensure everything runs smoothly. I have already mentioned Rob, then there was Marilyn doing the timing, and Peter, James, Tim and Brian all on traffic control. This year the organisation was done entirely by the High Energy Physics group - clearly a group of highly energetic physicists! Hope to see many of you again next year!
